Safari basics

Pack lightly and bring only essentials for your days on safari.  Road travel in East Africa can be demanding and dusty at time, particularly when venturing away from major centres to acess the game parks.

Suggested Equipment List -

1. Good polarised sunglasses.
2. Bush hat - ideally one which is secure in strong breeze.
3. Casual, light cotton clothing of neutral colour is most suitable for game drives by day.   Bring comfortable but neat and respectable options for dinners - collared shirts for gents, skirts for ladies.
4. Bring your swimming costume as some lodges will have a pool.
5. Sweater or fleece depending on season and region visiting - we will advise on booking.
6. Guide books - we recommend Collins Safari Guides, "Larger Animals of East Africa" and "Common Birds of East Africa".
7. Camera equipment and plenty of film as it is very expensive and very often unobtainable.   Digital cameras will benefit from a photo-dump or extra memory cards.  Spare batteries are a must.
8. Binoculars - very important, have multiple.
9. A good torch (at least a 2 battery cell torch), spare batteries and bulb.
10. Basic medical kit (aspirins, elastoplast, immodium, antiseptic cream, anti-histamine cream, etc.)
11. Insect repellent eg Tabard and Doom.
12. Malaria tablets as prescribed by your GP.
13. Tissues / wipes.
14. Water bottle for personal use and water purifying tablets.
15. Moisturising cream & suntan lotion
16. If you wear contact lenses we recommend that you bring along a pair of glasses in case you get eye irritation from the dust.
